WRITE AND REACT, May 14-31, 2008

28 Emerging Artists and Writers explore the connections
between Visual Art and the Written Word.
Presented by MAXED ART.

Presenting 14 local Tucson artists and 14 writers, WRITE AND REACT is an art exhibit which opens May 14, and runs until May 31, 2008 at the new Arts Incubator Gallery, 108 E. Congress St., Tucson, Arizona. Artist Reception happens Friday, May 16, with soul music by L EYE, and is free and open to the public. Gallery Hours are Mon-Sat, Noon-6pm. Presented by MAXED ART, a multi-disciplinary artist collective, WRITE AND REACT is a collaborative group exhibition featuring poetry, prose, painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed media artworks.

WRITE AND REACT investigates the inspiration, influence and information that arises between the separate mediums of the written word and visual art. Each writer was invited to submit a written work of their choice, either poetry, or prose. Then, each visual artist was randomly paired with a writer. The artist was then asked to create a new work of art that was inspired, influenced or informed by the writing they were given. The resulting art exhibit features each collaboration as a pair, the written work shown next to the visual artwork. Artworks are for sale, as well as individual broadsides of the written work, with proceeds going directly to the artists and MAXED ART funds. This exhibition is supported in part by a grant from Tucson Pima Arts Council.

WRITE AND REACT features writers from Houston, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Several artists and writers are current University of Arizona students. All participants in this project are emerging talents.

Select artworks from the exhibit will be featured at University of Arizona's Conceptual Poetry Symposium, May 29-31st. Please visit the UA Poetry Center website for more information.
